 Paragliding and Hangliding

The Bright area is world renowned for its great ‘air’, ideal for paragliding.  You can take a tandem paragliding flight or learn yourself and start a beginners’ course.

The rim of The Gorge at Mount Buffalo provides a spectacular platform for hangliding. Take advantage of the up-draft air currents just like the local population of eagles.

Both sports have the same favourite launching spot at Mystic Hill in Bright. During summer the paragliders are like swarms of brightly coloured bees taking off from Mystic Hill.

Microlighting and Scenic Flights

Porepunkah airfield a short drive from Bright down the Buckland Valley is the place where you can do your own flying in the company of a professional.  Microlighting flights and scenic plane flights take off from this airstrip to show you the sights of the alpine valleys and high country.

4WD and Kayak Tours

4WD day tours into the Alpine National Park operate daily from Bright, exploring the many wilderness tracks of the Victorian Alps. Or paddle your own kayak down 7kms of pristine waterways in the region. Gourmet catering with local cool climate wines is included in each tour.

Rock Climbing and Abseiling

The sheer granite face of The Gorge at Mount Buffalo provides a spectacular platform for rock climbing and abseiling to suit everyone from the beginner to the most advanced adventurer. There is excellent single and multi-pitch climbing and the North Wall boasts world-class aid climbs. There is also excellent granite boulder infill caving.

Horse Riding

High Country riding lies at the heart of the biggest recreational horse riding area in Australia, and has plenty to offer both the novice and experienced rider. Bogong Horseback Adventures take tours from rich mountain valleys to the vast Bogong High Plains combining, great food and wine, fantastic mountain bred horses and friendly, experienced staff.

For easy access to superb fly-fishing, head to the Ovens River between Myrtleford and Harrietville. The river has a myriad of tributaries for anglers to explore, including the Buffalo River (particularly beautiful and productive above Lake Buffalo), Buckland River, German Creek, and Morse's Creek (where good-sized trout are occasionally taken at its junction with the Ovens River). Also known as the Bright Pool, this junction is a popular destination for swimmers on a hot day.
